The Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) and Metro-North Railroad are commuter railroads, but they also stop at stations inside the five boroughs. For trips within the city, a CityTicket costs $5.25 off-peak or $7.25 peak (since January 4, 2026).

Long Island Rail Road

LIRR trains leave Manhattan from Penn Station and Grand Central Madison. Useful in-city stops include Woodside (connection to the free Q70 bus to LaGuardia) and Jamaica (connection to the AirTrain to JFK). Not every train stops at every station, so check the timetable.

Metro-North Railroad

Metro-North runs from Grand Central through Harlem–125 St to the Bronx, Westchester, Putnam and Connecticut. A CityTicket covers trips between stations in New York City.
